Last night, I wrote up a rather belligerent post in response to an article on RJ's Fro about Mat Latos autographing baseballs with "I Hate SF." I have since re-evaluated my opinions on the matter, and here they are:
I still dislike Mat Latos. I completely overreacted about this "I Hate SF", likely because I was still a little irked from the comments he made about the Giants earlier this year. I thus interpreted this, a relatively innocuous thing, as something much more vicious than it was. And after all, a good portion of the money from the autographed balls is going to charity.
As for my comments about RJ's Fro, I have completely changed my opinion. Blogging is a hobby, not a profession, and I shouldn't have implied otherwise. He was just having fun, and there's no harm in that. I didn't find his comments amusing ("to all of you Giant fans reading this I know you're a little slow, so the SF stands for San Francisco" ), but that doesn't mean that he was in the wrong. He was just poking fun at a division rival, and that's certainly acceptable.
In the midst of all of this, RJ's Fro and I have unintentionally ignited an SF-SD rivalry, and I'm pretty excited about it. Funny, because just last night I wrote "Your attempts to manufacture a Giants-Padres rivalry out of the Padres' second-place finish are futile and unnecessary." But after a massive Twitter war ensued, I can clearly see that this rivalry is real. And that's awesome, it really is. Rivalries are fun, and SF-SD games are exciting. I'd be lying if I said there weren't some extremely intense games between the two teams this year.
A lot of people saw me as being uptight from this whole fiasco, and I want to make it clear that that is not the case. I'm a relatively relaxed guy -- I just tend to overreact sometimes. Thanks to OGC, as always, for chiming in with his trademark rationality. I suggest you read the comment he wrote on the Mat Latos post from last night.
And as for RJ's Fro and Splashing Pumpkins, we're on good terms now. We're currently trying to develop a friendly wager on the SF-SD season series, so stay tuned for that.
