Down in the Minors: 4/16/11

Notable seasonal lines...

A Augusta

Dan Burkhart: .385/.500/.462, 16 PA
Rafael Rodriguez: .214/.267/.286, 30 PA
Chris Lofton: .130/.259/.130, 27 PA

Austin Fleet: 9.1 IP, 7.7 K/9, 1.0 BB/9
Seth Rosin: 5.1 IP, 4 ER, 0 K, 1 BB

Notes:
Fleet's ERA is a bit inflated, though his K/BB ratio through his first two starts has been solid.

A+ San Jose

Nick Liles: .455/.536/.636, 28 PA
Chris Dominguez: .333/.372/.641, 43 PA
Tommy Joseph: .325/.349/.600, 43 PA
Gary Brown: .308/.413/.359, 49 PA, 10 SB

Chris Heston: 10 IP, 3.60 ERA, 9 K, 1 BB
Zach Wheeler: 5.0 IP, 3 K, 3 BB, 2.00 G/F
Jose Casilla: 5.1 IP, 0 K, 5 BB, 2.00 G/F

Notes:
The SJ Giants offense has been pretty explosive thus far, having scored 68 runs in nine games on the season. Gary Brown's power hasn't yet manifested itself in the early-going, but he's been drawing walks -- which is very promising. Casilla's looked pretty awful so far, as the 0/5 K/BB clearly indicates. Heston, on the other hand, has looked excellent, sporting a very spiffy K/BB of 9/1. Overall, this team looks very talented. No worries yet about the under-performers, as small sample size caution clearly needs to be exercised here.

AA Richmond

Charlie Culberson: .270/.263/.351, 38 PA, 10 SO, 0 BB
Roger Kieschnick: .250/.364/.357, 33 PA, 5 SO, 5 BB

Eric Surkamp: 9.0 IP, 2 ER, 15 K, 3 BB
Clayton Tanner: 5.0 IP, 4 ER, 5 K, 1 BB

Note: The Richmond offense hasn't been too impressive (30 RS in nine games). Culberson has struck out ten times in 38 PA and has yet to draw a walk -- not looking good thus far. I'm not expecting much by Culberson in AA, but hopefully he picks it up and starts hitting well. Surkamp has taken the next step toward dominance so far -- as I'd expected. I expect him to continue this...the high K rate is especially promising.

AAA Fresno

Brett Pill: .486/.500/.784, 42 PA
Conor Gillaspie: .316/.366/.474, 41 PA
Emmanuel Burriss: .323/.447/.387, 40 PA, 13 SB

Ryan Vogelsong: 11.1 IP, 17K/5BB, 1.59 ERA
Marc Kroon: 4.0 IP, 0 R, 5K/2BB

Note: Gillaspie had a solid AFL performance (it should be noted that Culberson also had a very good AFL performance) with five HR and just five SO in 76 PA; glad to see he's continuing to do well. Vogelsong has looked excellent so far, and is backed by solid peripherals. It seems the Giants are trying Burriss all around the outfield -- it could be useful if he plays serviceable defense out there.
