Holy Stat-rimony! Giants win 5-4

The Giants beat the Cubs 5-4 on Wednesday thanks to an 8th inning solo home run by Pat Burrell. Zito's line: 6.1 IP, 4 ER. It's time for "Holy Stat-rimony!":
  • Pat Burrell is batting .356 over his last 15 games. Even more impressive is his on-base percentage of around .450 during that span.
  • Pablo Sandoval is now batting .333 at home this season. He is also batting .315 over his last 14 games. The Panda is coming back! He has hit safely in each of his last 15 home games.
  • Andres Torres is batting .345 over his last 20 games. He stole 2 bases on Wednesday and is now 5th in the NL in stolen bases with 23.
  • Aubrey Huff has already set a career high with 59 BB this season. His previous career high was 56 in 2004.
  • Brian Wilson leads the NL in saves with 33.
  • Aaron Rowand is batting .304 with 3 HRs over his last 22 games after going 1 for 4 with 1 HR.
  • Andres Torres has not made an error since 2003
  • 6 of Zito's last 7 games started have been decided by 1 run.
  • The Giants are now 45-13 when they score first and 45-22 when they hit a HR.
  • The Giants now lead the NL Wild Card race by 1.0 games.
Additional Commentary: I also want to comment on Bochy's use of Sanchez and Renteria in the no. 2 spot. I think the Giants batting order should look more like this:

1. Torres - CF
2. Posey - C
3. Huff - RF
4. Burrell - LF
5. Sandoval - 3B
6. Uribe - SS
7. Ishikawa - 1B
8. Fontenot/Sanchez - 2B
9. Pitcher

I know my inclusion of Sandoval in the #5 spot is debatable, but at home it would work because he has such a good avg. at AT&T Park. Comment with your suggestions for the Giants' lineup.

Tomorrow: Matt Cain pitches against Randy Wells. Giants hit a collective .571 (8 for 14) against him: tomorrow is going to be a goooooooooood day.
