Lincecum Struggles as Giants Lose to Padres

I was wrong. Lincecum didn't dazzle today as I had expected. He came out strong in the 1st, striking out the side, but it was all downhill from there: 3.2 IP, 8 H, 5 ER. Here's a good post about Lincecum written by Andrew Baggarly. Here's another one that takes a more in-depth look at Lincecum this season.

To Lincecum's credit, the defense behind him is less-than-amazing. The range that Burrell and Guillen cover is terrible: Torres has more range than the two of them combined. And Pablo Sandoval's defense at third base is on a rapid decline. It's not even like Lincecum got hit hard -- he didn't allow a single extra base hit.

I think this game pretty much highlights my opposition to Guillen starting in RF. If Ishikawa started at 1B, and Huff played RF, the Giants' defense would be improved as would be their offense vs. RHP (Ishikawa has a slash line of .305/.352/.456 vs. RHP).

I'll keep this as a running statistic (although its statistical significance is debatable):
With Guillen as the starting RF, the Giants have averaged 8 runs allowed per game.

Also, Buster Posey had a nice game (3 for 4, 1 HR) batting second in the lineup. I think that this will relieve some of the pressure for him to drive in runs.
