Game Recap: Rockies 7, Giants 4

...That was the worst start of Tim Lincecum's career.

He went 5.2 IP, allowing three strikeouts and six walks. That's a BB/K of 2.0...how often had Lincecum had more walks than strikeouts in a game, coming into today?

Just six times. Except this time, he set a career high in BB/K in a game (2), and allowed more hits (9), home runs (2), and runs (7) than he did in any of those other starts. He had a game score of 20 tonight, his career-low. His game FIP was 9.64, and his game tERA was 10.50. I think you get the gist of it: worst start of his career.

I will say this, too. Lincecum shouldn't have been left in to face Carlos Gonzalez. He just didn't have it tonight, and that was painfully apparent. In a tied game, with Jeremy Affeldt warming up in the bullpen, why not bring him in to face CarGo with two outs?

Whatever. This was a blue-moon occurrence. Lincecum, once or twice a year, has an ugly start like this, and I'm fine with losing those one or two games a year.

Anyway, some more notes --

  • I approve of Nate Schierholtz starting in right field. A home run and a couple of walks today. This was, in fact, his first two-walk game ever. Tim Lincecum already has two career two-walk games...
  • The Giants grounded into four double plays in this game. Interestingly enough, Miguel Tejada was not responsible for any of them.
  • Mark DeRosa looked awful tonight.
  • Our friends over at Snow Woulda Had It! are hosting a live game chat on Thursday...go check it out.
