What to Expect from the Call-Ups

Brandon Belt

Well, you're well aware of Belt, obviously. Since being sent down to AAA, he's posted a .337/.470/.525 slash line in 132 PAs. Expect Belt to hit for an okay average with good power, draw a lot of walks, and play good defense (if he's at first base). Rory Paap over at Bay City Ball had a comp that I really liked: Ike Davis. I'm more or less expecting something like Davis' rookie season, which was actualy an excellent rookie campaign.

Brandon Crawford

Ranked by Baseball America as the Giants' sixth-best prospect, Crawford is an athletic guy with solid speed, an above-average (possibly elite) major-league defensive shortstop. His bat, however, is a concern. He's never tasted AAA, and he struggled at the plate in AA in 2009-2010. I'm not expecting much from the bat -- though I'd expect that he can be better at the plate than Brian Bocock and Ivan Ochoa were (they were pretty awful). In any event, he should be a good late-inning defensive replacement, and probably nothing more than that at the moment.

Chris Stewart

He's only appeared in 26 major-league games (career wRC+ of 24), and there's good reason for that. He's a guy that can draw walks, and can post reasonably low strikeout rates, but he's just not that good. In over 2500 PAs, his career minor-league line is .256/.328/.360...that's pretty much all you need to know. He's a 29-year-old third-string catcher.
