Edgar Renteria will play in 2011. You can read about it
here. He does still have the ability to contribute at the major-league level, as he showed in the 2010 World Series. Considering how thin the free agent market is, it wouldn't be too crazy if a few teams were interested. After all, Renteria is only 35 years old. He could also play the
mentor-type role as he somewhat did with the Giants, given his veteran and postseason experience.
In my opinion, it's rather sad. I feel like he has a rare opportunity to end his career on the sweetest of notes, with a World Series-winning home run. But he still wants to keep playing...
"I'm staying, I feel that I still have a lot of baseball in my body. [On] Monday I have a very important meeting with my agents to talk about my future, but I have already decided I will keep playing. That's all I can say until I meet with them."
