Guide to Splashing Pumpkins

Since its inception six months ago, Splashing Pumpkins has grown to be much bigger than I'd ever imagined. After 277 posts, we've started to really find our personality as a blog -- if that makes sense. If you haven't yet gotten to know this blog, here's a quick run-down to help you become acquainted with us.

What we do:

We're sabermetrically-inclined, so you'll often see us link to articles on Fangraphs, or reference statistics like ISO, WAR, and xFIP. We're not extremist in our sabermetric views -- sabermetrics is far from perfection -- but we will use it when necessary, which is quite often.

Anyway, on this blog, we've developed a few segments and such, so here's a quick summary --
  • Notes - these posts are actually quite frequent, and consist of a bullet-point list of, well, notes. Here is where we link to interesting articles/posts (I'm very good at finding interesting articles/posts) and semi-important-to-unimportant Giants news (i.e. Giants birthdays).
  • Ten Questions - these are ten-question Q&A's, conducted (usually) on a weekly basis. We'll talk to other baseball writers and bloggers, as well as (potentially) reporters, scouts, prospects, players, and other baseball staff. You can check out the list of Ten Questions posts here.
  • Peek at the Prospects - this is a mini-series in which we profile Giants prospects. Perhaps we'll eventually begin ranking prospects, but for now, you can see the Peek at the Prospects posts here.
  • Game Recaps - the one thing we are consistent about doing is Game Recaps. We will give recaps of all 162 regular season games, as well as the postseason games. Heck, we might even do Spring Training games. If you remember the old way we used to do game recaps, we're changing it -- to make them more succinct; you'll have to wait and see the new style.
