Aaron Rowands Collects Two Hits, Giants Win

You see that little red blip right there?

Yeah, that's a key situation. In fact, it was the highest-leverage situation in this game. And who was given the task of pitching at this point in the game? Guillermo Mota. That should never be a job for Mota. But it worked. And Mota is awarded with a WPA of .248; Lincecum, meanwhile, who had a game FIP of 2.65 (yeah, they have that stat now), had a WPA of -.297...just more evidence that WPA for starting pitchers has little value.

  • Good game out of Brandon Belt, which I've been awaiting. A bloop single and a walk. Look, his BABIP is .154 right now. He's obviously having some tough luck at the plate, so he'll naturally start producing well. He's maintained a great P/PA thus far too.
  • Tim Lincecum's GB/FB in this outing? 14.00...very good.
  • Obligatory Aaron Rowand mention: he got the job done tonight. I'm still not buying that he'll be anything more than mediocre at the plate this year, but it's nice to see, nevertheless. And I don't know how he hit that RBI single in the fourth inning. That pitch was quite low.
  • It makes me a complete and utter hypocrite that I'm declaring Pablo Sandoval's April as evidence of a resurgence while disregarding Aaron Rowand's April. But I'll continue to do so. And while I'm at it, I'm going to say that Matt Kemp is headed for another great year based on his small April sample size. Seriously, Pablo's back, Rowand's his usual self (with slight positive natural regression), and Kemp is back to being a force.
  • Back end of the 'pen was beautiful. Sergio Romo and Brian Wilson combined for four strikeouts, throwing two scoreless innings. Six men up, six men down. To all those that were worried about Wilson: what is wrong with you?
