- The Panic Index: The Red Sox, Giants, Rays and Brewers | Hardball Talk
Giants: Yeah, the chalk outline of Aubrey Huff in right was funny, but with the way he’s flopped around out there I’m worried for his safety, be it from going into a wall Bump Bailey-style or be it from his pitching staff murdering him. The defense is a huge problem for San Francisco. Perhaps a bigger problem than we assumed this spring. Still, Cody Ross will be back soon, moving Huff to left, and you can’t really get down on a team with this kind of pitching. Panic Index: 5
- Mark DeRosa may not be a bench player for long | Bay Area Sports Guy
[It’s] conceivable that if DeRosa stays healthy, injuries and inconsistencies throughout the non Posey/Huff parts of the lineup will lead to DeRosa starting more than half the Giants’ games this season.
- Comparing 2011 Division Projections | Baseball Analysts
Five of the six systems like San Francisco to repeat at NL West champions, with Marcel the lone dissenter picking Los Angeles.
- Barry Zito: Mustached American | Hall of Very Good
Personally, I like the 'stache. I'm also a big fan of Carl Pavano, for whatever reason. - Week One Velocities: Lincecum Up, Jimenez Down | Beyond the Box Score
His stuff was harder on Thursday night than we've seen from him, on average, in a couple years. This might be one of those one-game blips, but Lincecum-the-Ace isn't going anywhere as long as he's still reaching into the mid-90's.
- The Giants defense may be clankerific but I am not worried | Crazy Crabbers
The Giants defense may not be pleasing to the eye, but I am willing to bet that it gets the job done and lands in the top half of defenses again this season.
- Early struggles give Giants a needed dose of reality | Bay Area Sports Guy
Perhaps the best part about the bumbling Conrad-esque style of play the Giants showcased in their opening series was a realization that all the focus on the Philadelphia Phillies’ rotation and East Coast bias is a waste of energy. An NL West championship isn’t an inevitability for the Giants, and even in their championship season of 2010 they started 1-5 in their first road series against L.A. and S.D., and went on to go 3-11 in their first 14 road games against NL West opponents before rallying in the second half to finish 19-17 in that category.
