Game Recap: Giants 7, Cardinals 3

  • Great start from Madison Bumgarner against the best offense in the NL. He needed just 104 pitches to get through seven innings, threw strikes (70 strikes/34 balls), and kept the ball on the ground (2.00 GB/FB).
  • Nothing to complain about in terms of the Giants' offensive performance today. The lineup order was a bit questionable (Miguel Tejada batting second; Aaron Rowand's presence), but they drew walks (six), put the ball in play (just six K's), and of course, had a couple of home runs.
  • Extra Baggs had an interesting note today:
Tejada stands to lose his starting job, or his roster spot, when Sandoval comes back. Just a hunch, but I think the club is giving Tejada one last chance to show he’s still got something left.
Baggs notes that Tejada has been the worst hitter in the NL, and he's spot-on (Tejada's wRC+ of 31 ranks dead-last). I'm all in favor of getting rid of Tejada should he not pick up the pace before Sandoval's return.
  • Another day, another uninspiring performance from Aubrey Huff, who reached base in just one of his five plate appearances. Please, Bruce Bochy, just give Huff a day off. Or two. What's the harm in starting Brandon Belt at first? Huff has been the worst player in the majors thus far.
