- Spring Training means new uni' numbers for some: Pat Burrell now wears Juan Uribe's old number, #5. Brandon Belt now wears Burrell's old number, #9. Miguel Tejada has uniform #10, and Travis Ishikawa now has uniform #35.
- Possibly the most exciting Giants-related news since November: Tim Lincecum's mustache is gone. According to Baggarly, he said "My dog licked it off."
- The baseball that Brian Wilson used to strike out Nelson Cruz to win the World Series clincher is kept in a Halloween candy jar in his kitchen, apparently.
- Bruce Bochy acknowledged the Phillies rotation, saying: "You look at the track record, and you'd have to say the Phillies have the best staff in the league. The road to the World Series will have to go through Philadelphia." However, he added that the Giants' staff didn't get enough credit for the way it performed during the postseason.
- The Elmer Dessens deal fell through, and the Giants are going to sign Brian Lawrence, who hasn't pitched in the majors since 2007. There was likely a problem with Dessens' physical. In regards to Lawrence, he has decent control, but his K rates make him largely ineffective. Never bad to have insurance, though...Still, I'd be surprised to see him pitch in the majors this year.
- The Common Man ran the Sweetspot Blog today, and had an interesting post on the ways teams screw things up. "The Giant Method" is frustrating, but hey -- the gamble worked in 2010, and they'll enjoy another year of Buster Posey before he hits free agency, as he'll likely gain Super Two status.
- There was another interesting take on the Giants' philosophy from PressDemocrat.com (h/t Baseball Musings and BBTF)
- Andrew Baggarly has started up his Rundown series again!
