Fun with WAR Graphs

Just some fun with Giants-themed WAR Graphs (click to embiggen) -- and a few links at the end. Why? Because I'd rather do this than talk about the 17 injuries the Giants are currently dealing with...

Miguel Tejada v. Al Dark (Cumulative WAR by Age)

Phil Nevin v. Aubrey Huff (nth Best Season)

Aaron Rowand v. Pat Burrell (Cumulative WAR by Age)

Bengie Molina v. A.J. Pierzynski (nth Best Season)

And some links:
  • The Giants' Big Flaw | Fangraphs
It’d be well worth their while to start shopping around and seeing whether they can convert some of the depth they have at other positions into a real Major League shortstop. Call me crazy, but I think a team trying to win the NL West should have at least one on the roster.
  • Breaking Down Tim Alderson's Delivery | Pirates Prospects
The problem I see with Alderson is that he's taking too small of a step, then using too much energy going from a crouched position to an upright position. From there, when he's throwing, it's the same as if he was warming up in the bullpen before a start. He's not following through, which indicates that his momentum isn't being transferred from his back leg to his pitching arm.
  • Stacking Up The NL's Fifth Starters | Beyond the Box Score
[Barry Zito]'s making $18.5 million, which is outrageous for a No. 5 starter, but that doesn't make him worthless. You know he's good for 190+ innings, which has value, and at this point he projects as a 2 WAR pitcher. Most teams would take that from a fifth starter.
