Braves 4, Giants 1

  • Madison Bumgarner was pretty mediocre out there tonight; but in all fairness, he should have at least gotten through the third -- was it not for a misplay at the hands of Miguel Tejada. Anyway, Madison's not doin' too well this season, as you may have noticed. His K/BB ratio is at 9/10 over 17.1 IP. The important part there: 17.1 IP. Let's not get too worked up about his performance based on 17 innings of work.
  • Miguel Tejada is an awful defensive shortstop. It's worth mentioning every few days. I noticed two plays, specifically, in which an average defensive shortstop would have made the out. One came in the third -- his error, and the other was a Martin Prado infield single if I recall correctly....UZR has him at -1.2 thus far (-18.6 UZR/150), and DRS has him at -5. Small sample size; yet it scares me.
  • The big positive here: the 'pen went 6.1 scoreless innings, striking out six while allowing just one walk.
  • Anyway, an awful game. The Giants drew one walk and only managed three hits. Tommy Hanson was brilliant -- game FIP of 1.44
  • More good news....If I recall correctly, Anibal Sanchez tossed a one-hit shutout against the Giants last year. Well, in case you missed it, he did it to the Rockies tonight
  • Tomorrow, Tim Lincecum takes the mound. Last time he faced the Braves, he did this.
