Kyle Lohse(?) Shuts Giants Down, Vintage Barry Zito

  • Not a good outing from Barry Zito. Five walks, accompanied by one lone strikeout in 5.1 innings. Zito's better than this. (I hope.)
  • Kyle Lohse, on the other hand, dominated the Giants. Eight innings, one earned run, just five hits, and only one walk. I hate when bad pitchers do this to the Giants. But in all fairness, it wasn't their best lineup.
  • Mike Fontenot looked dreadful in the leadoff spot. 0 for 4 with three strikeouts. He's just not a leadoff hitter.
  • Pablo Sandoval continues to play well. There's little doubt in my mind that his resurgence is legitimate, though others continue to point out that he played very well last April.
  • Sticking by my prediction: Guillermo Mota will be DFA'd this year. Though his K/BB is starting to look very sexy (small sample size...).
  • Freddy Sanchez continues to hit well, which gives me optimism in spite of an uninspiring ZiPS projection. I have a Sanchez article in the works, to be posted in a few days.
  • I'm beginning to wonder what the chances are that Brandon Belt is sent down. Cody Ross is coming off the DL quite soon. And it seems like Aaron Rowand isn't going anywhere, especially now that Andres Torres is injured. Thoughts?
