Game Recap: Giants 3, Cubs 0

Not your typical game, to say the least. The Giants were declared the winners shortly after the pouring rain halted the game at six innings to even up the series at one game apiece.

Some quick notes...

  • Ryan Vogelsong wasn't quite as dominant this time around, but survived a barrage of early singles and a couple of errors to earn the "complete game" victory. His strikeout-to-walk ratio was still superb at 7 to 1, and he did a good job keeping his composure during a bases-loaded situation in the 1st.
  • Miguel Tejada committed both of the Giants' errors tonight on what seemed to be routine groundballs. While the ground was quite wet, a veteran major league shortstop should hold himself to higher standards. He also struck out with a runner on third and less than two outs, and there's no excuse for that.
  • Mark DeRosa's struggles continued with another 0 for 3 day. He left 5 runners on base, and now is hitless in the 10 at-bats he's had since returning from the DL. You have to wonder if he rushed back to the field after hearing about Pablo Sandoval's injury, since it's well known that he covets a starting role.
  • Buster Posey went 1 for 2 with a walk, which notably bumps his walk rate above 10% for the year. It's concerning that his newly-found patience has lead to a higher strikeout rate, but despite all of his struggles, he is still quietly on pace for a 4 WAR season, quite excellent for a catcher.
  • The strike zone was noticeably large at times, but the Giants still struck out 6 times in 5 innings against Doug Davis, he of the 85 mph fastball and 6.70 K/9 ratio. They also struck out 14 times yesterday. The lack of contact, especially in key situations, is a bit frustrating, but I don't expect it to continue.

You have to like the Giants' chances for a series win with Tim Lincecum on the bump tomorrow. The lineup will be facing the infamous Carlos Zambrano, so hopefully we'll see a little drama in the Cubs dugout.
