Game Recap: Giants 4, Rockies 3

Happy birthday, Willie Mays!

  • Player of the game: Nate Schierholtz. It could go to Freddy Sanchez, who had the walkoff single, or Pat Burrell, who reached base four times, but I'm giving it to Nate. He had a win probability added of .278 (27.8%), highest on the team. That double was a game-changer.
  • The Giants drew five walks tonight, which excites me. But it was against Ubaldo Jimenez, so it wasn't exactly unprecedented -- even for the Giants.
  • Mike Fontenot continues to mash. A triple and a walk. No way he keeps this up (his ISO is currently at .261, which is 100 points above his career norm), but it's nice to see nonetheless. Also, I'd rather see him batting second than third.
  • Aaron Rowand is awful. He's as bad as he was in 2010, perhaps worse. He went 0 for 5 with three strikeouts tonight. The thing is, his walk and K numbers are absolutely atrocious. The only thing keeping him from delving into sub-mediocrity is his luck on balls in play (.349 vs. a career norm of .318), which is sure to run out eventually.
  • Gary Brown went 5 for 7 tonight for the San Jose Giants, including three doubles. He, along with Alex Burg (who went 5 for 6), tied the SJ Giants franchise record for hits in a single game. The SJ Giants won 17-7 against Bakersfield. Man, they can hit...
  • Last, but most certainly not least, happy birthday to Willie Mays! A few links worth your time...
