Game Recap: Twins 9, Giants 2

That was, without a doubt, the worst game I've ever attended. Some notes (because there are, at least, some interesting stats to come out of this disaster game):

-- As Grant over at McCovey Chronicles notes, this was only the third time in history that a starter threw 25 pitches or fewer while giving up eight or more earned runs. He has a nice full breakdown of that awful first inning, which I recommend you check out.

-- As Jayson Stark of ESPN notes, Madison Bumgarner became the first pitcher in the live-ball era to give up nine hits in a game without getting at least two outs.

-- Aaron Gleeman notes that that was the longest outing of Guillermo Mota's career. (Can't wait to tell my grandchildren!)

-- Bumgarner achieved a game score of 2; only seven times since 1919 has a Giants pitcher had a game score that low.

-- Bumgarner threw 22 of 25 pitches for strikes, for a strike percentage of 88%. He became just the 21st starter since 1919 to boast a single-game strike percentage above 85%; he also became just the second Giants starter since 1919 to boast a single-game strike percentage above 80%.

-- Ted Berg notes that four of Guillermo Mota's nine career hits have gone for extra bases.

-- I haven't watched video of the outing yet, but I can say with assurance that it's far from as awful as some might perceive it. I'll just leave this here:

-- When Mike Fontenot returns to the Giants, Miguel Tejada needs to be designated for assignment. It has to be done.
