San Francisco Giants' Draft Success

I decided I'd mine Baseball-Reference to produce an interactive graphic of the San Francisco Giants' draft history (1958-2010). Below is the result.

-- Blue denotes college picks, green denotes Junior College, and yellow = high school
-- The size of the circle is based on career rWAR
-- You can sort by year
-- It's important to note that these are all the picks, and not just the ones that signed

You can also view it here (on its own page)! It's much easier to read.

Notes:

-- The only high-school draft picks to see extended time in the majors since 2002? Travis Ishikawa, Matt Cain, and Madison Bumgarner.

-- The 1998-2000 drafts produced little in the way of valuable major-leaguers, with one current exception: Ryan Vogelsong, fifth-rounder in 1998.

-- The Giants produced quite a few relievers with their mid-to-late 90s draft picks: Jason Grilli, Scott Linebrink, Joe Nathan, Bob Howry, and Keith Foulke.

-- The Giants' most valuable draft pick in 1992 was the 1391st overall pick: Marvin Benard.

-- How cool is it that the Giants drafted Will Clark and Matt Williams in back-to-back years, with the respective second and third overall picks?

-- 1971, 1976 and 1980 stand out as particularly awful.
